Bartlett Cove House Screen
Attendees at the 2011 Clan Workshop were treated to the unveiling of the Bartlett Cove Screen Panel which illustrates Huna’s Ancestral Homelands by carvers Gordon Greenwald, Herb Sheakley Sr., Owen James and Louie White Jr. The carvers worked from Dec. through mid-April on the 16’ h x 30’ w panel. Project manager and lead carver Gordon Greenwald introduced the artistic interpretation of the carved panel to the clan workshop attendees. The panel represents Huna’s Ancestral Homelands and the four clans – Chookaneidí, Wooshkeetaan, Kaagwaantaan, and T’akdeintaan.
“This has been an exciting project to be part of. It provides an opportunity to validate a portion of our history while maintaining a presence within our homelands. I have had numerous individuals express how this project has touched them in various personal ways.” –Gordon Greenwald
NPS and Hoonah Indian Association have signed an agreement to complete two more carving projects that will additionally be installed within the tribal house at Bartlett Cove. HHF/HTC sends a special thanks to Sealaska for the donation of the logs and the Hoonah City Schools for donating the shop space.
