In November 2010, HHF assisted members of the T’akdeintaan Mount Fairweather Clan House accompanied by attorney Walter Echo-Hawk, anthropologist Chuck Smythe and Tlingit Tribal Elders all of whom presented testimony before the National NAGPRA Review Committee at the Department of Interior in Washington
D.C. The National NAGPRA review committee agreed to hear the 15-year dispute between the T’akdeintaan Mt. Fairweather Clan (represented by the Hoonah Indian Association and supported by HTC and HHF) and the University Of Pennsylvania Museum.
The National NAGPRA Review Panel unanimously ruled that the University of Pennsylvania does not have “Right of Possession” regarding the fifty items. Additionally, in 2011, eight objects from the Mt. Fairweather “Snail House” Collection will return to Hoonah and the T’akdeintaan Clan.
